Donato Civitella, age 98, of Frankford, DE formerly of Long Island, NY passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at his home.
Don was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 21, 1925 son of the late Ernest Civitella and the late Giovanna (Peloso) Civitella. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII.
Don retired from the New York City Sanitation Department after 25 years and then continued to drive a truck for another 20 years. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post #7234 in Ocean View, DE.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carmela "Millie" Civitella and a son, Donald Civitella. He is survived by his three children, Donna Civitella of Tuscan, AZ, Karen Greco and her husband, James of St. Augustine, FL and Linda O'Reilly and her husband, Patrick of Frankford, DE; six grandchildren, Daniel Civitella, Oved Civitella, Nathan Civitella (Cassie), Alicia Greco Walker (Brian), Corinne Greco and Jaime Greco Bowden (Austin) and 8 beautiful great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, DE 19970, where a prayer service will begin at 6:30 PM. A committal service with military honors will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Don's name to the VFW Post #7234, 29265 Marshy Hope Way, Ocean View, DE 19970 or to the USO by visiting www.uso.org

My wife and I met Don in 2001when he worked for the builder of our Condo. From the first time we met we became instant friends. Over the years we shared many memories. Don will be missed my me and my entire family. Rest in peace my dear friend until we meet again.
