Dondi Cook Obituary

Dondi Jon Cook, 65, of Fairbanks, Alaska, passed away on Feb. 6, 2026, in Fairbanks. He was born on July 4, 1961, in Gold Beach, Oregon, to Donald and Edith Cook.
Dondi spent his early childhood in Oregon, where his family moved to Eugene when he was young. During his preteen years they settled in Huntington, Oregon, where he later graduated high school. Known for his independent spirit and love of the outdoors, Dondi was drawn north and moved to Healy, Alaska, in the early 1980s. Shortly after, he proudly joined the United States Army and served his country with honor.
Alaska remained close to his heart throughout his life. He built his life there and spent his retirement years in the Fox, Alaska, area, where he enjoyed the quiet beauty and rugged landscape of the Interior. He found great joy in playing his guitars, sharing music and conversation with those around him. He was also devoted to his faithful dog, Ernie, who was a constant companion and friend.
Dondi is survived by his sister, Anna Carter (Jerry) of Oregon; his longtime companion, Jan Bell of Fairbanks, Alaska; two nieces, Mary Killian of Alaska and Brandy Farris-Smith of Oregon; and two nephews, John Carter of Alaska and Jay Carter of Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Edith Cook, and his sister, Linda Farris.
Dondi will be remembered for his adventurous nature, his loyalty to those he loved, his music, and the life he carved out in the Last Frontier. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
