Donna Jo Curry, 56 of Mingus, passed away Thursday June 19, 2025 surrounded by her family. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025 at the Palo Pinto County Cowboy Church, 2731 N. FM 129, Santo, TX.
Donna was born February 8, 1969 in Ranger, TX to Donald Charles Brooks and Kay (Box) Brooks. She made Mingus her home and community in 1996. She married Melvin Curry in 1999 at the First Baptist Church in Gordon. She had 6 kids; Kody, Felicity, Jamey, Kaile, and Orin & Owen Curry. Following her children, she had many wonderful grandchildren that she loved dearly.
Donna was the queen of chaos and always made her opinion known (in the best way). From the countless sports games and trade events, where she only ever complained about the heat, but wouldn't miss it for the world, to the many concerts, hangouts in the garage and beers drank to celebrate the occasion. If you knew Donna then you knew how to have a good time because she was the life of the party every time.
Donna loved to sit and listen to whatever we had to say that day but don't think she wasn't playing one of her games, drinking a fountain Coke Zero, and only halfway listening anyways. The many life lessons she told us kids were "to always say your prayers", "don't piss off the cook", and "I'm going to wash your mouth out with soap if you say the "F" word again".
Donna made an impact on each and every one of us that will last a lifetime. She would tell us all today that she loves us a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck, and to never forget it.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Melvin Curry; kids, Kody, wife Stephanie Pockrus, Felicity Curry, Jamey Curry, Orin Curry, Owen, wife Madalyn Curry, Kourtney Miller, and Brianna, husband Clay Berry; grandkids, MJ Ruiz, Talan Garcia, Aadi Fuentes, Stellan Berry, Layla Gonzales-Miller, and Karis Hendrix; brothers, Jamey Brooks, Kaile Hendrix, and Michael, wife Teri Brooks; nieces and nephew, Tristen Johnson, Brandon, wife Traci Johnson and Barrett Johnson, and Zane & Blaine Brooks; sister-in-law, Teresa Johnson, cousin Tina Nichols; and mother-in-law, Mae Curry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Donna's name be made to: www.jpshealthnet.org/foundation/Donate-Now.
