Donna "Lynn" Butner Elliott, age 75, of the Bear Creek Community, went Home to be with the Lord after a brief illness on Monday, October 13th, 2025. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Nina Hylemon Butner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gail Butner.
Donna had a deep love for animals, both tame and wild. She was joined in spirit by her beloved dog, Toby, who passed away the same day. Whether camping under the stars or simply walking through nature, Donna felt most at home surrounded by God's creation. Her artistic talent was extraordinary; through her art, she shared her vision of the world's beauty and the creatures she adored. Her heart was enormous, she was a nurturing mother, a devoted wife, and a caring friend. Her newest companion, Winston the golden doodle, brought her great joy and comfort.
Donna loved the Lord and carried her faith with grace, love, and strength. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and love that will live on in all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Mike Elliott of the home; sons: Chad Buchanan (Heather) of Spruce Pine, Anthony "Tony" Yaccarino (Anissa) of Spruce Pine, Chris Buchanan (Paula) of Overland, KS; stepchildren: Jeremy Elliott of Chuckey, TN, Vinny Yaccarino of San Diego, CA, Nick Yaccarino of FL; grandchildren: Hayden, Hannah and Carter Buchanan of Spruce Pine, Charlie and Emilia Buchanan of Kansas City, KS, and Kipling Ludy of Windsor, CO; step-grandchild, Chayse Elliott of Chuckey, TN; brother, Bryan Butner of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister-in-law, Karen Young of Elizabethton, TN; and nephew-in-law, Travis Combs of Elizabethton, TN. Many other extended family members also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 2nd in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
