Howard Arnold Byrd, age 78, of Bakersville, passed away on Tuesday, November 11th, 2025 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Floyd and Delphia Casteel Byrd.
Howard was a man who truly loved the outdoors and the simple joys of life. He found peace and happiness while hunting and fishing, spending countless hours surrounded by nature. Howard was a devoted NASCAR fan and loved watching racing. Howard shared a special bond with his pets, especially his beloved dog "Molly" who was his constant companion and went everywhere with him. Their friendship brought him great comfort and joy through the years.
Howard will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kindness, humor and love for life will be fondly remembered and forever treasured.
Left to cherish the memory of Howard, are his children: Terry Byrd (Tammy) and Melissa Ledford (David); four grandchildren: Brittany Phillips (Cody), Katrina Fox (Mike), Sabrina Jaynes (Jason "JJ") and Samantha Holmes (Mike); great-grandchildren: Colton, Brayden, Jason, Allison, Lily, Braden, Oliver, Malachi, Liam and Lexi; brothers: Lee Byrd (Bridgette), James Byrd (Rosie), Arthur Byrd, Willie Byrd; sisters: Janie Cooper (Boyd) and Janice Yarbrough (Kenneth). Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Yancey Funeral Services to help the Byrd family with funeral expenses.
