Everett L. Sutton, age 68, of Elk Park, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lafayette, Indiana, he was the son of the late Earnest Sutton and Mary Jo Farmer Keener. At the age of eleven, Everett moved with his family to the mountains of North Carolina, a place he would come to love and call home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alexis Sutton; a daughter-in-law, Carol Sutton; and brothers, Larry Sutton and Tom Sutton.
Everett was an avid reader with a special fondness for the works of Stephen King, as well as western novels and television shows. He was known for his sharp mind, quick wit, and vast knowledge on a variety of subjects. Above all, Everett was a devoted family man who loved deeply and fiercely. He was always willing to stand up for his family and cherished every moment spent with them-especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife of 43 years, Shirley W. Sutton; sons, Oscar Sutton, Dwight Sutton, and Thomas Sutton (Jessie), all of Elk Park; grandchildren, Cody Sutton, Felisha Sutton, Noah Sutton, Brandon Sutton, Sophia Sutton, Lucas Sutton, and Caleb White; and great-grandchildren, Harlynn, Haylynn, Jackson, and Bentley. He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary Ward of Spruce Pine; brothers, Joe Sutton of Florida and Johnny Keener of Winston-Salem; and sister, Louanna Keener Molina (Jose) of Winston-Salem. Several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.
