Donna M. Kohler Moore, 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Richmond on Thursday evening, March 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 11, 1948, in the family home in Kilgore, Donna was the daughter of the late Donald and Marietta Bright Moser. She grew up in Kilgore, a place that held a special significance in her heart throughout her life.
Donna pursued her passion for education, graduating from Malone College with a degree in education. She embarked on her teaching career at Carrollton before transferring back to her hometown to teach at Kilgore Elementary School, where she dedicated 30 years of her life to shaping young minds.
Faith played a central role in Donna's life, and she was an active member of the Amsterdam Church of God. Her commitment to her faith extended to teaching Sunday School for many years and serving as treasurer on the church board until her health prevented her from doing so. Donna's selflessness extended beyond the church walls, as she tirelessly served her community at the Kilgore Community Center, where she volunteered at events and served breakfasts.
Family meant everything to Donna, and she poured her heart into creating lasting memories with her loved ones. She took great joy in bringing everyone together during the holidays, preparing meals with love and care. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she was actively involved in their lives, nurturing and cherishing each moment spent with them.
Donna is survived by her beloved husband, Larry Moore; her sons, Keith (Sharon) Kohler and Jeremy (Mary) Moore; her daughters, Stacey Linhart and Shauna Moore; eight grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsey, Trevor, Denis, Austin, Kole, Keevan, and Ivey; five great-grandchildren, Rhylee, Delaney, Winnie, Blakely, and Jaxon; six sisters, Alva Dell, Shirley, Betty, Mary, Audrey, and Verna; an aunt, Loretta (Ray) Noble; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Kohler, in 2016.
Funeral services to honor Donna's life will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Amsterdam Church of God, with Rev. David Guess officiating. She will be laid to rest in Kilgore Cemetery following the service. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Amsterdam Church of God. Monetary donations in honor of Donna's memory can be made to the Amsterdam Church of God.
Donna will be remembered fondly for her unwavering faith, her dedication to education, her selfless service to her community, and above all, her deep love for her family. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew her.
