John Warbel Obituary

Born January 18, 1925 in Wolf Run, Ohio, he was a son of the late Ciprian and Irene Kaniuk Warbel and was preceded in death by siblings, Nellie Redovian, Mary Gregor, Annie Gregor, Dorothy Kochan, Nicholas Warbel, Lucas Warbel, Mike Warbel, Steve Warbel, and Samuel Warbel.
Yonk was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, June Anderson. He was the father of four children: Nick (who preceded him in death), Judy (George) Sponhaltz, John (Robyn) Warbel, and Mary Ann (John) Ferrigan. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Amy Sponhaltz, Adam Warbel, Kasi Williams, Ryan Warbel, Emma Ferrigan, and Colin Ferrigan, and five great-grandchildren: Michael Jepson, Megan Jepson, Hudson Williams, Hollis Williams, and Maddox Warbel.
Yonk, a proud naval veteran of World War II, honorably served his country in the Philippines, exemplifying courage and dedication. Following his military service, he built a long and respected career with Y&O Coal Company until his retirement. A man of faith, Yonk was a member of All Saints Orthodox Church in Wolf Run. He was also a proud member of the Unionport Masonic Lodge #333 and the Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, where he enjoyed the fellowship and traditions of these longstanding organizations.
Funeral Mass for Yonk will be held Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Orthodox Church in Wolf Run, Ohio with Fr. Andrew Nelko officiating. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 - 7 p.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Amsterdam.
