Donna Jean Maynard, a beloved resident of Albertville, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the age of 85, surrounded by loved ones at her residence. Born on July 25, 1938, to the late Samuel Collier and Mary Griffin, Donna's life was characterized by dedication to education, coaching, and a profound love for her family.
Donna graduated from Crossville High School in 1956 and went on to pursue higher education at Jacksonville State University, earning a Master's degree in Physical Education. Her passion for teaching led her to a remarkable career spanning over 28 years, where she touched the lives of countless students. During her tenure, Donna not only imparted knowledge but also coached various sports including track, volleyball, softball, and served as a cheerleader sponsor. A devout member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Donna found solace and community in her faith.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and care through her children: James Stacey Maynard, Mitzi Rae Gibbs, Chad Dustey Maynard, and Jacob Myles Maynard. Donna's role as a grandmother was cherished by her grandchildren – Storm (Destiny) Maynard, Dalton (Fendi) Maynard, Bailey (John Tyler) Green, Chloe Clarkson, Haley Gibbs, Hunter Gibbs, and Misty Gibbs (Brandon Echols). Her great-grandchildren, Bransyn Gibbs, Hayden Clough, Braelynn Gibbs, Everly Truett, Carter Maynard, Vanessa Rose Maynard, Julian Vega, John Vega, Ava Jones, Bryson Maynard, Finley Green, Madi Echols and McKenzie Echols, were a source of joy and pride. Known affectionately as Momma Donna and Dee Dee by her grandchildren, Donna's love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. "Sonny" Maynard, and her grandson, Bryar Maynard.
A funeral service to celebrate Donna's life will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home, with Bro. Willis Kelly and Bro. Lonnie Craft officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. The honor of assisting Donna Maynard to her final resting place at Memory Hill Cemetery will be bestowed upon Dalton Maynard, Storm Maynard, Hunter Gibbs, Chris Gibson, Troy Teal, and Tylar Daniel.
In remembrance of Donna Maynard, her family asks that friends and loved ones join them in reflecting on a life well-lived, full of love, compassion, and a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have known her.
