Donna Marie (Heim) McKnight, 92, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
Visitation will be held from 9:30am to 10:30am on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Summit Congregational United Church of Christ. A funeral service will follow at 10:30am with Rev. Karen Candee officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Galena, IL.
Donna was born March 3, 1933, in Dubuque, lowa, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Hulscher) Heim. She was an only child and her daddy's pride and joy. She grew up in Galena, Illinois and graduated from Galena High School in 1951.
Donna was married to Howard Webster, with whom she raised their three children, Wayne, Gary and Marcia in Galena. She worked at Galena State Bank for many years. Donna loved socializing, meeting friends for card club to play Euchre, and in her younger years, bowling.
She also enjoyed cooking, and especially loved baking. Cookies, pies, breads, bars, rolls, and just about any sweet treat were her specialty, and in her kitchen there was always an abundance of goodies.
On May 3, 1980, Donna married Paul Stanley McKnight at Summit Congregational United Church of Christ in Dubuque, where they became longtime members. She and Paul enjoyed traveling together, making memorable trips to Hawaii, Alaska and Branson, Missouri. They enjoyed going on John Deere bus trips with so many of their friends. Donna worked at HyVee for many years and they made their home together in Dubuque until Paul's passing in January 2020.
Above all, Donna cherished time spent with her family. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always brought her great-grandchildren little treats and seeing their excitement brought her so much joy. As her family grew, Donna loved
asking people to guess how many great-grandchildren she had-and delighted in surprising them with the answer: 23.
Donna is survived by her two sons, Wayne Webster of Wilmington, IL, and Gary (Angela Heidenreich) Webster of Galena, IL; one son-in-law, Robert Broshous Jr. of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Jason) Wiegel, Adam (Jayne) Webster, Cassie (Steven Greser) Gold, Cody (Danielle) Anderson, Whitney (Zackary) Bansner, Russ (Ashley) Webster, Nicole Webster, Ashley (Nate) Mealhow, Adrienne (Darrin) Kaisand, and Alea Broshous; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marie Heim; her loving husband, Paul McKnight; and her devoted daughter, Marcia (Webster) Broshous.
A memorial has been established for Summit Congregational United Church of Christ.
The family wishes to thank Donna's church family, especially Pastor Karen Candee, for her prayers and support. They would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to her dear friends at Eagle Pointe Place-Carrie, Ellen, Candi, and Dean-and would also like to thank the Eagle Pointe staff for providing care, support, and friendship.
