Donna Brown Mondik, 92, of McMurray, passed away June 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 25, 1933, the daughter of Robert Alexander and Gladith Wynkoop Brown.
Donna graduated from Carrick High School in 1951 then continued her education at Allegheny General Hospital's School of Nursing, graduating in 1954 where she made many lifelong friends, affectionately called "the Nurses Club". She later obtained her B.S.N. in 1960 from Duquesne University.
Donna was the beloved wife of the late George H. Mondik, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage until his death on May 29, 2025. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, purpose, and unwavering commitment to one another and their family.
Donna was a woman of quiet grace and strength. A member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Houston, she lived out her values daily supporting her church, her community, and especially her family with steadfast love and care. Donna had a long nursing career working for the Pennsylvania Department of Health first in Allegheny County and later in Washington County. She was then employed by Washington & Jefferson College for twenty-five years as a nurse in their student health department.
After her retirement, she volunteered at the Peters Township Library. Donna enjoyed decades of playing golf. Donna especially cherished the years of couples' golf and travel with George, embracing each adventure with joy and pleasure as she planned every detail of each trip.
She took immense pride in her role as a mother and grandmother. Donna and George raised three daughters who survive: Barbara Mondik(Nicholas Sotereanos), Susan Mondik Key (Abraham Key) and Mariann Mondik Thomas (Thomas Thomas).
Donna was a loving and engaged grandmother to six grandchildren whose lives she touched with warmth, caring, and gentle encouragement. Left behind to cherish those memories are her six grandchildren: George Sotereanos, (Stephanie), Gregory Sotereanos (Gabriella), Michael Sotereanos (Nicolette),Nicole Sotereanos, Casey Key (David Hall)and Lincoln Key; and two great-grandchildren: Nico George Sotereanos and Roma Sotereanos.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband George; her parents; eight siblings: Robert Brown, Thomas Brown, George (Bud) Brown, Helen Allen, Harry Brown, Edward Brown, Margaret Gaumer, and Mary Jane (Jay) Graham.
Donna was a source of quiet strength for her family, a loyal friend, and a woman who as a nurse spent her life caring for others and caring for her husband at home during his final days. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
A memorial service to celebrate Donna's life will be scheduled at a date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Donna's memory to the Peters Township Library in McMurray, PA.
