George H. Mondik, 95, of McMurray, passed away at home on May 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 24, 1929, in Manifold, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Hudak Mondik. George graduated from Chartiers High School in 1947 and went on to attend Washington & Jefferson College, where he was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and an ROTC participant. He was called to serve while still in school and was deployed to the Korean Conflict as a member of the U.S. Army. There, he formed lifelong friendships with his fellow soldiers in the AT&M platoon, attending bi-annual reunions well into his 90s. After completing his military service, George earned his degree from the University of Pittsburgh. A man of unwavering integrity and tireless work ethic, George began working at a young age. He took odd jobs before joining his family's excavating business, and later became a licensed stockbroker. He spent many years at Parker-Hunter before co-founding Station Capital, Inc., where he worked until his retirement at age 89. George was a man of deep faith and lived a Christian life. He was a longtime member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Houston, PA, where he served as a deacon and elder, He also had been a member and past president of the Canonsburg-Houston Rotary Club. George had a passion for golf and played regularly until the age of 92. He was a longtime member of Lone Pine Golf Club and shared many wonderful years of couples' golf with his beloved wife, Donna, traveling together and enjoying courses near and far. Above all, George was devoted to his family. He was married for 68 years to Donna Brown Mondik, who survives him. Together, they raised three daughters, each of whom graduated from W&J College: Barbara Mondik, M.D. (Nicholas Sotereanos, M.D.), Susan Mondik Key, (Abraham Key), and Mariann Mondik Thomas (Thomas Thomas). He was a devoted grandfather who cherished his grandchildren deeply. He never missed an opportunity to attend their events, always cheering them on with pride and unwavering love. He is lovingly remembered by six grandchildren: George Sotereanos, M.D. (Stephanie), Gregory Sotereanos (Gabriella), Michael Sotereanos (Nicolette), Nicole Sotereanos, Casey Key, and Lincoln Key; and two great-grandchildren, Nico George Sotereanos and Roma Sotereanos. Also surviving are his sister, Ruthann McKay and his sister-in-law, Terry Mondik, both of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Harold Mondik and James Mondik. George's legacy is one of love, quiet strength, and unshakable devotion to faith and family. He was known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and selfless nature-always ready to lend a hand, and the kind of man whose steady presence made others feel safe, supported, and loved. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2025, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342. Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2025, in the First United Presbyterian Church of Houston, 102 N.
