THE VILLAGES, FL & LINCOLN, MAINE - Donna Sharon Polk, lovingly known as Sharon, passed away peacefully and entered the heavenly realms on December 28, 2025, with her devoted husband of 65 years, Don, and her daughter, Wendy, by her side. She was 84 years old.
Sharon was born on December 17, 1941, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, to Myrtle D. Carr. She was raised in Baileyville, Maine, where she attended local schools, formed lifelong friendships, and later graduated from Woodland High School. In 1947, Myrtle married James H. Bacon. Sharon's life was shaped in love, commitment, and devotion. These qualities followed her throughout her life and formed her into the beautiful person she became.
On July 29, 1960, Sharon married her childhood sweetheart and lifelong partner, Vinton D. Polk. Together, they built a life rooted in commitment, resilience, and unwavering love. Sharon proudly stood beside Don throughout his 20-year military career with the United States Marine Corps, followed by a 20-year career with the United States Postal Service. Sharon also had a career as a secretary at the Lincoln Pulp and Paper Mill, where she proudly served her role while always keeping family at the forefront of her responsibilities. Together, they spent their early retirement years in Lincoln, Maine, followed by a move in 2016 to The Villages, Florida, where they enjoyed shoveling sunshine, golf cart rides, picnics, bunco, bingo, music, dancing at the squares, and Taco Tuesdays. Throughout every season of life, Sharon served as the steady foundation of their family and the true heart of the Polk household.
She was the beloved mother of four children: the late Vicki Sue Polk; Wendy Berglund and her husband Shawn Berglund of The Villages, Florida; James Polk and his wife Susie of Springvale, Maine; and Jeffrey Polk of Palmer, Alaska. She was a cherished grandmother to Andrew, Emily, Scott, and Kelly, and a proud great-grandmother to Hakeem, Victoria, Halima, and Ibrahim. Sharon was predeceased by her brother, Elmer L. Doughty of Baileyville, Maine. She also played an important role in the life of her niece, Wanda Doughty Smith of Alexander, Maine, who held an extra special place in her heart.
Sharon was the rock, the glue, and the matriarch of the Polk family. She loved with her whole heart, a love evident in the care she gave, the traditions she upheld, and the countless birthdays, anniversaries, and special moments she never forgot. Her quiet strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion touched all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A funeral service will be held at a later date. The family asks that friends and loved ones honor Sharon's memory by practicing kindness and unconditional love in their daily lives.
Her legacy lives on through the family she held together, the love she gave freely, and the example she set simply by the way she lived.
