Donna Yvonne Rathermel passed away of natural causes on December 5, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on June 29, 1938, to Christine and Orin Droste, Donna lived a life rich with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Donna was a graduate of Nekoosa High School where she began to cultivate her passion for education. She furthered her studies at Wood County Normal School and the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, earning the credentials that would launch her decades-long career as a schoolteacher. For many years, she imparted wisdom and knowledge to her students at Humke Elementary School, where she was known not only for her teaching excellence but also for her encouraging spirit.
Donna's life was deeply intertwined with her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn Rathermel, who was her partner in life and love. She was also predeceased by her parents, her stepfather Vilas Leach, her brothers Alvin, Glenn, and Eugene, and her sister Loretta. Donna is survived by her son, Jeff and she is remembered fondly by numerous friends, neighbors, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Beyond her role as an educator and mother, Donna was an active participant in her community. She was a proud member of the Christian Women's Organization, Red Hats Club, and Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association where she formed lasting friendships and enjoyed a sense of camaraderie. Her faith was an essential part of her life, and she was a devoted member of Lake Area Christian Fellowship Church, where she found solace and spirituality.
Donna's interests were as varied as her talents. She had a love for reading and delighted in arts and crafts, where her creativity flourished, bringing joy to those around her. Travel, music, and theater enriched her life, and she embraced every opportunity to experience the world and share those experiences with her friends and loved ones.
As we remember Donna, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart full of love, and a spirit that will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Although she has left us, her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire us all.
