Donna Correll (West) Weimer, of Detroit Lakes, MN, unexpectedly left us to be with Jesus on April 2, 2023, at the young age of 84. Donna was born on August 2, 1938, to Mary and D.A. (Bud) West. She graduated from St. Cloud State College with an elementary teaching degree. Her employment over the years included being a full-time 2nd grade teacher in Columbia Heights, a substitute teacher in Detroit Lakes, and office manager/oral surgery assistant for Dr. Clark Borstad. She married Dean Weimer in 1960 and together they raised three impeccable children, Greg, Dana, and Tammi. Many years were enjoyed on the hobby farm near the Fish Hatchery riding horses, raising numerous critters, gardening and canning. One of her favorite times was during major snowstorms. She would host coffee and card parties and neighbors would come trudging through the snow. She was a dedicated member of the elite “Ceramics” group. They called it ceramics, but pottery was rarely ever created! They shot the breeze, laughed, ate bowls of Nachos and drank Coke into the wee hours of the night. She and Dean later divorced, and in 1995 she met Dick Olson, who shared the rest of her years with her. She loved good laughter and was the instigator of many pranks and adventures. She loved to challenge her mind with daily crossword puzzles and playing bridge. She didn’t complain a day in her life. She was thankful for everything, needed nothing, and was full of good advice. She was a hard worker and was dedicated to her family and friends. Not a birthday went by without a card or call from Donna. She had a heart for children and believed in every child, often taking anyone in who was needing a second home. She poured her heart into them, and loved them to life. Donna is preceded in death by her son Gregory Dean Weimer, grandson Charles Dean Weimer, and her parents. She is survived by her special friend Dick Olson, of Detroit Lakes, his children Scott (Michelle) Olson of Rochester, MN and Meredith Olson of New York, her daughters Dana (Scott) Weimer Hughes of Chattanooga, TN, Tammi (Dennis) Crawford of Lewistown, MT, “adopted” daughter Carla (Greene) Wadholm of Fargo, ND, sisters Judy Owen, of Oak Grove, MO, Marcia (Gene) Okerland of Boiling Springs, SC, Deborah (Jeffrey) Krueger of Detroit Lakes, MN, Susan (Bryan) Harris of Deer River, MN, and brother David (Cheryl) West of Detroit Lakes, MN, grandchildren; Corey Long, Levi (Kayla) Long, Anthony Weimer, Jordanna Weimer, great grandchildren, Audrina (Hixon) Long, Lanie Long, Carter Long and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. It was Donna’s wish to be cremated and placed on her children’s mantles where the action is. A visitation and memorial service will be held at West~Kjos Funeral Home on August 25th. Visitation is at 2:00 pm with service following. A Celebration of Life will be held directly after the service for friends and family at the home of Deb and Jeff Krueger, 436 Dead Shot Circle, Detroit Lakes. Casual dress for fellowship, food and fun, lakeside on the lawn!
