It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donna Wiernik. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dixie Donald and Emogene Smith Mayfield, and her brother, Larry Mayfield, all of Owensboro, KY. She is survived by her husband Eric Wiernik of Georgetown, TN, sister Lisa (Roger) Cox of Owensboro, KY, son Randy (Amy) Work of Dacula, GA and grandchildren Savannah (Nick) Troino and Ryan (Courtney) Work of Lawrenceville, GA and nieces and nephews, Stephen Mayfield, April Mayfield-Skaggs, Jason, Cox, Lori Smith, Chris Welch and Donald Benton.
Born the eldest of three in Owensboro, KY, Donna graduated from Murray State University in 1967. She eventually settled in Lawrenceville, Georgia in the early 1970's with her first husband, where she had her only child. She worked several jobs during that time, and was finally hired in 1985 as an accountant with the City of Lawrenceville. It was there that she spent the rest of her career, finally retiring as Finance Director in 2017 after 32 years of service. She met her second husband there, and was married to him for over 28 years until her passing. She was also a former member of Pilot Club, International and served with them for many years.
Donna leaves behind many friends and family who loved her very much. She fought a rare cancer valiantly for over 15 years, fighting it every step of the way. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or another cancer research program of your choice.
A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in the Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrenceville with Rev. Harold Thomas officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 28, 2023, and from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Road, SW, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30046. 770.962.3100.
