Donald Lee ("Donnie") Corbin passed away on September 6, 2025, at the WV Caring hospice facility in Elkins. Donnie was born on September 8, 1947, in Elkins, a son of the late Donald E. Corbin and the late Ruth Basil Corbin. He was a graduate of Elkins High School, Class of 1965. During high school, Donnie was a member of the band, serving as a trumpeter for the Mt. State Forest Festival for all three years. He was also an active participant in both the baseball and basketball teams. Donnie married his high school sweetheart, Sonja Hedrick Corbin, on October 15, 1967. Together, they were blessed with three sons: Donald ("Scott") and wife Tanya of Fredericksburg, VA; Stephen Patrick and wife Karen of Ocoee, FL; and Christopher Matthew and wife Jennifer of Winston-Salem, NC. Donnie is also survived by four grandchildren: Paige and Ethan Corbin of Fredericksburg, VA; and Quinn and Avery Corbin of Winston-Salem, NC. He leaves behind one bonus daughter, Holly Conklin Elbon, and one bonus grandchild, Barrett ("Boo") Elbon. Donnie proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1971 and graduated from WV Career College in 1977. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2005, where he served as the Postmaster in Buckhannon, WV. Donnie was an active member of the American Legion and the Elks, where he participated in various golf groups. He was also a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and chairing numerous committees over the years. In addition to his church and civic activities, Donnie was deeply involved in youth sports in Elkins. He contributed to the Little League baseball program and was instrumental in the formation of the first Pop Warner football league, alongside Greg Young and Barry Gardner. Donnie also dedicated time to running the timeclock for the men's and women's basketball teams at Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College. Later, he served as the assistant women's basketball coach at Davis & Elkins under head coaches Jay Dailer and Jason Asbell. Donnie is survived by his wife, Sonja; his children and grandchildren; three sisters: Susie Ware (Lewis), Brenda Romine, and Betsy Jones (Randy); niece Melody Ware Tingler; and nephews David Ware and Nick Jones. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Tom Romine. A celebration of Donnie's life will be announced at a later date. The family request memorial contributions be made to the Angel Fund at Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, 450 Randolph Ave., Elkins, WV 26241, the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241 or West Virginia Caring Hospice, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Donnie.
