Donnie Mordecai was born on September 16, 1967 in Harris County, Texas to Sarah Ellen Dillman and Donnie Glenn Mordecai. Donnie was known by many different names: "Big Donnie," "Big Daddy," "Big D," "Big Mordecai," "Big Feets," or simply "Mordecai."
Donnie had a passion for cooking which turned into a love for eating great food and he loved to hunt. He was the first to make sure everyone was fed and he knew of every hole-in-the-wall place to eat between Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio (or he would Google the top 10 places to eat in any town he was going through). He could make a mean steak, pork chops, chicken breasts, green beans, cowboy potatoes, fried fish, gumbo, jalapeno poppers, pico de gallo, guacamole, and just about anything else. His dishes were made with a lot of love. He enjoyed being affirmed of the good food as he would facilitate around the room inquiring if "everything tasted alright." He would get so excited when it came to food. Additionally, he loved being outdoors enjoying everything nature had to offer, which fueled his love for hunting and fellowship at numerous deer camps over the years. Hunting deer came second to hunting or stalking hogs. He loved a good hog hunt.
To know Donnie was to love him. He had the biggest heart for people. Donnie never met a stranger, had the firmest handshake, and gave the best hugs. He did not have a personal bubble and if you did you were going to be violated because you were getting a hug or he was going to pull you in to him on a handshake. Out of all his qualities, Donnie also loved to dance and listen to some good county music with the love of his life, Claudia. They were beautiful on the dance floor and in life. His children were the light of his life and he would call them several times a day just to say random things or just shoot the breeze. Those conversations always led to a story and have left lasting memories. He loved watching his kids compete in things that they loved. You would hear Donnie yelling with excitement at all of their events.
Donnie's life was dedicated to law enforcement and he loved his brothers and sisters in blue. He was the protector. He was the one you wanted with you in any type of situation. He was always on the ready to protect and serve. His later years of service changed to being a mentor/counselor to students in the districts he served. He was big on building relationships with young people and leading them in a positive direction.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Claudia Mordecai; his daughter, MacKenzie Mordecai; son, Wyatt Mordecai; brother, Mark Mordecai, and in-laws, Robert and Charlotte Hill, along with numerous other family members and friends that were considered family.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Don Mordecai and Ellen Guerreo. He ended his watch on November 24, 2023. Rest easy brother, we've got your six.

We met Donnie at a deer camp we were visiting just last week. He served up a delicious meal of smoked sausage on buns, smothered in sautéed peppers, cabbage, and mushrooms. Such a treat! He was friendly, funny, and could tell a great story. His offering of thanks before the meal indicated he had an intimate relationship with our Father God and Savior Jesus Christ, and we have no doubt he is in Their presence at this moment. We feel honored to have spent even a short few hours in his company. Our most heartfelt condolences go out to those who knew and loved him. We know he will be deeply missed.
