Donnie Wade Rice

Donnie Wade Rice was born in Hazard, Kentucky on July 31st, 1953, the son of the late John Henry Rice & Zola (Begley) Rice.  Donnie departed this life on Monday, February 17th, 2025 at 71 years of age, surrounded by his family.  He was the husband of Janie (Begley) Rice, of London, Ky. He was the father of his daughter, Monica Jones, and husband Jason and baby daughter, Kristi Rice all of London. He was the brother of Tommy Rice (wife Linda) of Richmond Ky and Wallace Rice (wife Ciddie) of Wooton, Ky. He was also blessed with two treasured grandchildren, Ty Christian Jones and Faith Lauren Jones both of London, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents John Henry Rice and Zola (Begley) Rice of Wooton, Ky & a son, Brandon Wayne Rice, as well as his beloved mother in law, Olive Begley of Hyden, Ky.  Donnie was a graduate of Lee's Jr. College, Jackson, KY.   Donnie was a coal miner at Blue Diamond coal as well as a general mine foreman for the 3rd shift crew at Shamrock Coal with 30 years of dedicated service.  He also received his accreditation as a federal mine inspector.   Donnie also worked for Lipps Paving after his retirement.  He took great pride in working and providing for his family.   Donnie enjoyed fishing, especially with his grandchildren and brothers & gardening. He was a car enthusiast and took great pride in detailing his autos.

Memorial Services for Donnie Rice will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 at Dwayne Walker Funeral Home in Hyden, Ky.  with Adam Hooker officiating. The family of Donnie Rice will receive friends from 1:00pm until the time of his service on February 22nd, 2025 at the funeral home chapel.
