SHELBY- Donnis Turner Walker, born on August 29, 1952, in Cleveland County, NC, passed away peacefully in the same cherished community she called home on April 18, 2025, at the age of 72. A beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, Donnis filled the lives of those around her with warmth, love, and creativity.
Known for her exceptional skills as a seamstress, Donnis brought beauty and joy through her handiwork, crafting prom dresses that transformed young dreams into reality, hemming clothes to perfection, and sewing buttons with the utmost care. Her love for cross-stitching was a testament to her patience and attention to detail, creating pieces that will be treasured forever.
When not with needle and thread in hand, Donnis found joy in watching Animal Planet and Hallmark, bringing her comfort and delight. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found solace and community as a devoted member of New Salem Church.
Donnis was preceded in death by her father, DL Turner; her husband, Charles Walker Sr.; her brother, David Turner; and her sister, Ann Johnson. She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor her memory: her sons, Steven Walker and wife Nikki, and Gene Walker; her mother, Pauline Turner; her sister, Gail Finney and husband Billy; her grandchildren, Sareena, Dylan, Alissa, Tristian, Katelyn, Dale, and Andy; and her great-grandchildren, Liberty, Hunter, and Blakelyn.
A gathering of friends will be held Saturday April 26, 2025 from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home
A wonderful mother and grandmother, Donnis made the little things in life important, especially birthdays, ensuring each family member felt cherished and celebrated. Her legacy of love is carried on in the hearts of all who knew her.
