Dora Harper Obituary

Visit the Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery website to view the full obituary.

Dora "Lou" Harper, beloved owner of The Koffee Kup Restaurant in North Kansas City, transitioned peacefully from this life on September 30th, 2025, at the age of 99. Born on January 22, 1926 in the Boston Mountains of Arkansas. Lou was a force of nature, whose cooking abilities brought comfort and joy to all who crossed her threshold. But don’t ask for a recipe because there was no recipe… A pinch of this and a dash of that. Only she could make it the same twice. Her restaurant became a cherished staple in the community, where friends and families gathered not just for the meals, but for the warmth of her presence and her magnetic personality that drew everyone in.

Known for her love of her savior Jesus Christ and unwavering religious beliefs. Whether you agreed with her or not, one thing was certain: she was always straight to the point, and many found great value in her honesty and devotion. She was a loyal companion, mother and grandmother to those related by blood as well as those who were not.

Her distinctive love for a fresh cup of black coffee second only to an ice cold Dr. Pepper, which brought her joy every day. Yet, beyond her culinary talents and strong opinions, Lou was adored for her nurturing spirit, especially when it came to her grandchildren. She took immense delight in spoiling them, showering them with love, laughter, and all their favorite treats. Lou was also known for bowling competitions in her previous years where she proudly showcased her many trophies.

In addition to her culinary and competitive pursuits, Lou had a passion for horse shows and rodeos, often seen cheering in the stands for her children and grandchildren supporting Hilltop Farms. These events were a testament to her family-oriented nature and her love for creating cherished experiences that would last a lifetime.

In the hearts of those she touched, Lou's spirit will forever remain untamed and vibrant as well as her unwavering love for her family, her zest for life, and her spirited personality will never be forgotten.

Lou was preceded in death by her parents, William and Esther Embry; the love of her life, Carl Harper; daughters, Merlene Tucker, Rena Gallaway, and Cricket Harper; sons: Stephen Keech and Cliff Harper; grandchildren, Steven Kibby, and Emily Harper; great grandson, Kash Covarribus, great granddaughter, Cyanna Harris, her brothers and sisters, as well as her son in law, John Tucker.

She is survived by her children, Cecelia (Larry) Blackwell, Karen (Jeff) Rullman, Carlene (David) Gray, Carl (Bescinda) Harper Jr., and Ray Keech; as well as several grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Children's Mercy Hospital.
