Dora Lee Hoyt, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 6, 2025, in Katy, Texas, with her loving son and daughter-in-law by her side. She was born on December 19, 1930, in Rockdale, Texas, to Frank and Mary Davenport. Mary instilled strong Christian convictions in Dora that guided her throughout her life.
Dora graduated from Rockdale High School in 1948 and began working for an insurance company in Galveston, alongside her first cousins, Margie and Doreen. Shortly thereafter, she met her future husband of 67 years, Elmer Hoyt-affectionately known as "Tiny"-and they married on March 31, 1949.
She raised her family in the Shady Acres community near the Heights in Houston, where she lived for 27 years. After Tiny retired, they moved to Chriesman, Texas, where Dora worked at Walmart in Caldwell for 10 years. She was actively involved in the voting polls, the Eastern Star Caldwell Chapter 976, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0451. After retiring from Walmart and overcoming a bout with cancer, Dora and Tiny relocated to East Bernard, Texas, to be closer to family. "Dody," as she was lovingly called, enjoyed trips to Coushatta, visiting friends and family, and even took a once-in-a-lifetime journey to London, England.
Dora cherished keeping her home, growing flowers, playing "42," fishing with Tiny, and spending quality time with loved ones.
She was "saved" at White Oak Baptist Church alongside her husband, and they became active members. Later, they transferred to Timber Grove Baptist Church, where Dora taught Sunday School to the "little ones."
Dora is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Davenport; her husband of 67 years; three brothers, Ray, Floyd, and Billy; and one sister, Thelma.
She spent many cherished Christmases with Thelma and her family-they were as close as sisters could be.
She is survived by two sons, Frank and Rick Hoyt; five grandchildren, Mason Hoyt, Stacie Hoyt, Robert Hoyt, Austin Hoyt, and April Werner; and eight great-grandchildren, Preston Reitz, Zackary Reitz, Charlie Werner, Ava Hoyt, Eli Hoyt, Landon Hoyt, Ellie Hoyt, and Brynley Hoyt.
A service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery. A short visitation will begin at 10:00 AM that morning.
Pallbearers for the service are Mason Hoyt, Robert Hoyt, Austin Hoyt, Kevin Stavinoha, Preston Reitz, Zackary Reitz, and Brian Werner.
