Dora "Jeanie" Jean Peek, 80, of Waltonville, Illinois, formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away at 6:17 am August 19, 2025 at her residence. She was born April 29, 1945 in Leavittsburg, Ohio to the late James M. and Eva M. (Titus) Morrison. Jeanie married Garnet "Buddy" Peek on December 21, 1963 in Leavittsburg, Ohio.
In addition to her beloved husband, Jeanie is survived by her daughter, Teresa Hale and husband, Terry of Waltonville, Illinois; sons, Jon Peek of Columbia, Illinois, Mike Peek of Saint Louis, Missouri, Mathew Peek of Saint Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Justin England of Waltonville, Illinois, Jordan Hale and wife, Brooklin of Scheller, Illinois, Jada Hale of Waltonville, Illinois, and Jonas Peek; great-grandchildren, Jayleigh England, Raylan England, Tydus England; brother, Robert Morrison and wife, Sheryl; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jeanie was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Shelby Hale; brother, James Morrison, Jr.; sister, JoAnn Apthorpe.
Jeanie loved working at Shelby's Place and was lovingly called Granny. She was a girl scout leader, PTO president, and Sunday school teacher. Jeanie was a member of Jefferson County HCE and attended Waltonville Freewill Baptist Church. She loved Coca-Cola memorabilia, snowmen, Hallmark movies, and Celtic music.
A Visitation will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor Mark Wells officiating. Interment will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Jeanie's honor to Waltonville Freewill Baptist Church, Jefferson County HCE, or Knob Prairie Cemetery.
