Doreen Paci Obituary Doreen Marie Paci, of Winthrop, died peacefully on August 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Doreen was born on August 4, 1952, to Victor Paci and Delia (Buonopane) Paci into a raucous, fun, and closely bonded first generation Italian American family centered in East Boston and Winthrop.
She is survived by her beloved twin sister Anita Paci, her brothers Victor (Jennifer) Paci, and Robert Paci, her niece Elizabeth Paci (David Rand), her nephew James Paci (Jennifer Helfrich) and her five cherished great nephews and nieces, Isaac, Miles, Samuel, Delia and Madeline.
Doreen lived a full and joyful life, turning casual acquaintances into lifelong friends, and acting as the lively force around which her extended family revolved. Doreen relished her role as the "fun aunt" and was always up for any adventure offered, from apple picking, sandcastle building and travelling, to attending lectures, concerts, plays or museum exhibits. She had a sharp and inquisitive mind, read widely, and cared immensely about the welfare of others, whether it be the neighbor down the hall, the foster child in greater Boston, or the plight of refugees abroad.
Doreen graduated from Winthrop High School in 1970 and briefly attended UMass Boston but found professional fulfillment in a nearly 50-year career in the catalogue department at Boston Universitys Mugar Library. At BU, Doreen created a community of friends and colleagues that was diverse and inclusive. She was respected for her hard work and diligence, admired for her fair and equitable management style, but most of all she was loved for her sense of humor, her empathy, and loyalty.
Doreen loved a good cup of coffee, dancing at weddings, early morning walks along Winthrop shore, baking muffins for her little munchkins, Judge Judy, and playing with her much-loved cats. Doreens joy in lifes small moments was undimmed by her yearlong battle with cancer, a private struggle she took on with grace and determination.
Donations in Doreens honor can be made to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Against Children 125 Hartwell Avenue Lexington, MA 02421, an organization she faithfully supported in her lifetime. Burial will be private, and a memorial service will be held later this fall.
