Boersma Funeral Home54 year old, Doreen ‘Pokey’ Shupe, of Valparaiso, passed away on September 23, 2025.
On October 2, 1970, Pokey was born. To Harold and Berdene (Neely) Shupe, in Gary, Indiana. She worked as an inventory clerk for Meijer, travelling around to different stores. Pokey was a member of Faith PCG, where she served her church family as a Sunday school teacher back in the day. She enjoyed drawing, word searches, Sudoku puzzles, and being a jokester. Doreen, more than anything, loved her family, and lived her life full of joy and happiness. She was a proud and devoted mama, who’s son was her whole world.
Doreen is survived by her son: Keith Mackall, sisters: Debbi Helton, Cheryl (Ronald) Staddon, best friend: Linda Mackall, and her many nieces and nephews, and her great nieces and nephews.
Pokey was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters: Sharon Shupe, and Anita Flippo.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 E. Grove St., Wheatfield, IN 46392. Funeral Services for Pokey will be held at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Rick Helton officiating. Interment services for Doreen will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at the Wheatfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
