She was born on Thursday, June 10, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Sarah (Espenship) Gelet. She moved to Norristown, Pennsylvania when she was 18 months old and remained there throughout her childhood, graduating from high school in 1944. Doris touched the lives of countless people throughout her nursing career. She was a volunteer at Wyoming Medical Center for many years before moving to Douglas, where she also participated in volunteering at Memorial Hospital of Converse County.
