Doris M. Craven (née Morin) passed away on January 7, 2023 at the age of 81 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. She was the beloved wife of Francis M. Craven for 62 years, a union that was a testament to true love and devotion. Doris was a dedicated daughter, devoted mother, loving grandmother, caring sister, and an incomparable wife.
Born on July 4, 1941 in
Norwich, CT, Doris grew up in a close-knit family and was the daughter of the late John and Therese (Bernier) Morin. She worked many years at the accounting offices of Barry Bellavance, CPA & Donald King, CPA in
Putnam, CT, where she was known for her kindness, professionalism, and her many connections within the community. She was an asset to her profession and was well-respected among her colleagues and clients.
Being a mother and grandmother was one of the greatest joys of Doris' life. She was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren and took great pleasure in watching them grow and flourish. As a mother, Doris instilled in her daughters the importance of education and hard work, and was a role model in this regard, as she continued to pursue higher education later on in life.
Doris also had a love for travel, often taking trips up to Maine to visit her grandchildren and creating precious memories with them. In her early retirement, she and her husband embarked on a journey of a lifetime, driving across the country together, visiting new places and creating unforgettable memories. She was a woman of many interests and passions, and her family will always cherish the memories they shared together.
In her leisure time, Doris was an avid gardener and was known for creating beautiful flower gardens at her home on Cemetery Road, with sunflowers being her favorite flower. She had a green thumb and her gardens were a source of joy for her and her family. Doris' bountiful gardens attracted wildlife, including her favorite bird, the eastern bluebird. She also enjoyed knitting and quilting, creating many intricate handmade sweaters and quilts. Her handiwork was a reflection of her love and care for her family.
Doris was a lifelong parishioner and devout Catholic at St John the Apostle Church in
Plainfield, CT. She valued honesty and integrity, and chose to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service, like Christ modeled for her. She was an active member of the church and her unwavering devotion was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Tina Dionne, her brother Ronald Morin, and two infant sisters. She is survived by her husband Francis M. Craven, her daughter Jamie Cronin and husband Kevin, grandson Kyle Cronin, granddaughter Julianne Sawyer and husband Andrew, sister Jacqueline Willard and husband Robert, brother John Morin and wife Debra, brother Gerard Morin and wife Suzanne, brother James Morin and wife Kathryn, sister Betty Birkhofer and husband Jon, and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Doris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy will live on through her family and all those whose lives she touched. Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral mass for Doris at St John the Apostle Church, 10 Railroad Ave,
Plainfield, CT, at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
