Doris Josephine Dennis

Doris Josephine Dennis, age 101, of Brookfield, MO; passed away Thursday night, May 15, 2025, at Life Care Center in Brookfield.
Doris was born a twin on March 22, 1924, to the late Angelo and Geneva (Brusa) Stella in Marceline, MO, both of whom immigrated from Northern Italy. On May 23, 1953, she married Ray "Pee Wee" Dennis in Marceline, MO. Doris was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield, and she was in several bowling leagues.
Doris enjoyed tending her flower beds and making her delicious treats, especially homemade coconut cream pie and her famous chocolate cake. She made her house a home for all of her family and friends. Her favorite pastime was spoiling her six grandchildren. When her husband, Pee Wee was alive, they enjoyed square dancing every chance they could. She was an avid reader and birdwatcher. Doris liked gazing at the stars and the moon in the night sky.
Doris is survived by her three children, Leroy Dennis and wife Kim, of St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands; Debbie Groteluschen and husband Ron, of Bluffton, SC; and Linda Shaw and husband David, of Brookfield, MO; six grandchildren, Logan Shaw, Vanessa Shaw, Eric Groteluschen, Dane Groteluschen and girlfriend Emily Waikem, Julie Dennis, and Kelly Dennis and girlfriend Laura Ciapis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, George Angelo, four brothers, infant Virgilio Stella, Geno Stella, Joe Stella, and twin Louis Stella; and two sisters, Theresa Hall and Mary Kremer.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am. to 11:15 am. Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield, MO; with family receiving friends at this time. The Rosary will be at 11:15 am.followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am., with Father Paschal Ihediohamma officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Arrangements entrusted to the care and direction of Rhodes Funeral Home, Brookfield, MO.
