Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duffy-Poule Funeral & Cremation Services - Attleboro on May 24, 2025.
Doris (Smith) Dyer, age 85, formerly of Attleboro and Plainville, passed away May 8, 2025, at Bay Path Nursing Home in Duxbury. Doris (Dot) was the beloved wife of 61 years of Roger Dyer, until his passing in 2024. She was the loving mother of William and his wife Beverly Dyer of Dudley, Kenneth and his wife Louise Dyer of Maine, and Scott and his wife Janine Dyer of Plymouth. Dot was also a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother. Born in Central Falls, RI, Dot was the daughter of the late George and Irene (DeForges) Smith. She was the sister of the late George Smith, Claire Fletcher and Rita Froment, and is survived by siblings Irene Znuj, Robert Smith and Donald Smith.
Dot was a longtime resident of Attleboro until her move to Sunset Acres Mobile Home Park in Plainville several years ago. At Sunset Acres she had many kind neighbors who provided friendship and support to her and Roger. She and Roger frequently hosted cookouts in their yard with neighbors and friends and created many happy memories during those years. Dot became a resident at Bay Path Nursing Home in 2024 and the family would like to thank the administrators, clinicians, activities staff, and the CNA team for their caregiving and kindness towards Dot. At Bay Path, she loved participating in the crafts, holiday celebrations, and the regular Bingo games, where she won many prizes.
Dot relished spending time with her family. Rowe, MA was a frequent destination when she was raising her children and the family enjoyed time together camping, hiking and fishing in the beauty of that area. She and Roger would often spend their days in the peace and quiet of his beloved canoe, fishing in a lake and enjoying the sunshine. Dot took great joy being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was truly proud of all of them. She served in the caregiver role for her extended family, including supporting her beloved in-laws in their later years. She also served as full-time childcare provider to two of her young granddaughters and loved regular outings for ice cream, lunch and play dates, with trips to the petting zoo and playgrounds with neighborhood children and their caregivers. This made for a busy schedule and a full heart. She loved playing board games and cards with family and friends, and a game of SCAT was a frequent favorite. In recent years, Dot was a participant at Active Day of Mansfield; she formed strong bonds with the caring staff there and the fun activities brought her great happiness and a wide smile.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 75 Park Street, North Attleborough, MA.
Immediately following the funeral service, there will be an urn burial for Roger and Dot with Military Honors at North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.
We encourage all who knew Dot to share their memories and upload photos to her memorial page, cementing her legacy in the hearts of those she touched.
