Doris Jean Posey lived a full life with style and verve. She was born to John Wright and Margie
Foreman on July 31, 1931 in Chambers County, Alabama. After graduating from high school,
Doris relocated to Nashville where she pursued her dreams to provide quality health care to
others. Doris began her career as a nursing assistant and later became a licensed practical nurse
(LPN) after attending Jane Adams Vocational School. She then obtained her Associates Degree
in Nursing at Cuyahoga Community College. She graduated from Ursuline College with her
Bachelor's of Science in Health Administration.
Doris was an avid lover of fashion and modeled for the National Association for Negro Fashion
Designers (NANFD). She loved to shop and prided herself on being fashionable and walking in
stilettos. She was a passionate member of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, a non-profit
business and professional women's organization. She served in elected positions in the sorority
at both the local and regional levels. She enjoyed attending and coordinating national, regional,
and local Eta Phi Beta events and socializing with her fellow sorority sisters.
Doris loved cooking and delighted in baking and preparing large meals for family and friends.
She believed that as a host you should never run out of food and made sure there was more
than enough for any person who sat at her table. Doris enjoyed dining out and trying different
cuisines and loved to share that with her grandchildren. Doris never met a stranger and you
were destined to be subject to her wisdom, criticism, and life lessons if you had the pleasure of
conversing with her. Her whip smart come backs and unfiltered truth were given to all who
met her.
For much of her career as a nurse, she served in supervisory capacities and she ran a tight ship
at any facility she was employed. She gave an expert level of care to all patients she
encountered. Her dedication and service in the health care industry inspired her daughter to
walk in her footsteps.
Doris is predeceased by her husband, Newman Posey. She is predeceased by siblings Roy
Foreman and Delo Foreman and she leaves a daughter, Deborah Crawford- Butler, and three
step-children: Newman Posey, Jr., Michelle Posey, DeWayne Posey (deceased) and Drew Posey
(Jacquie). She leaves 7 grandchildren: Shariff (Yasmine) Crawford, Jason Butler, Nefetari
(Joshua) Bladen, Amanda Butler, Drew Posey, Jr., Dashon Posey, and Shardé (Dennis) Crawford;
9 great grandchildren Kalib Crawford, Allyana Alston, Serenity Bladen, Justus Bladen, Michael
Butler, Isaiah Crawford, Dennis (Trey) Bellamy III, Alliana Brown, Promise Bladen, and Angelique
Bellamy; and one great-great grandchild Elijah David Seymour. She leaves behind a host of cousins and a special friend, Mildred Welch.
