Doris G. Hayden

Doris G. Hayden, formerly of Rockingham, passed away surrounded by her loving family Monday, December 15, 2025. She was 89. Doris is a daughter of the late Ernest and Irene Gilis, born February 27, 1936, in Rockingham, NC. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Eugene Hayden, and sisters Barbara Lefler and Nancy Arnette.

Doris was a graduate of Rockingham High School and would go on to work for Richmond County Bank, United Carolina Bank and finally BB&T, where she retired after over 30 years. Doris loved to shop, cook Sunday dinners, planting and tending to her begonias, and stayed up to date with all the news on MSNBC. In 2019, Doris was diagnosed with cancer and moved to Carrboro to be closer to her daughter, Melissa, and UNC hospitals. Doris is survived by her daughter Melissa Hayden, son-in-law Dale Zuckert, her sister Betty Black, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will have a private service to honor Doris at Northam Cemetery.
