Doris Adeline Hook, 96, of Independence, MO, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at her home. She was born on February 14, 1929 in Stratton, NE to William Claude and Louise May (Price) Hartman. In 1937, they moved to Iowa and then later to Bethany, MO. She graduated from Bethany High School in 1946. And then on June 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Paul L. Hook of Martinsville, MO. Together they had three children and celebrated 62 years together before Paul's passing on January 22, 2009.
In November 1956, Doris united with the Sweet Springs Christian Church in Sweet Springs, MO and later changed her membership to the First United Methodist Church of Independence, MO after moving there in 1960. She was a member of the Mizpah Sunday School class, the Good Samaritan Circle, and chairman of the library committee. She was a volunteer at the Independence Regional Hospital for 12 years and Cler-Mont Elementary School with Caring Communities for 10 years.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents, William and Louise Hartman; daughter, Karen McKinney; brothers, John, Ivan, Buryl, Robert, and Caryl Hartman; and sisters, Mary Laurine Riley, Patricia Jennings, Helen McNew, Arda Hartman, and Bette Wendell. She is survived by her sons, Rob Hook and wife Johnna, and Larry Hook and wife Linda; grandchildren, Tracy Luna and Brian, Steve McKinney, Michael Hook and Amy, Melissa Leach and Nick, Candice Renfro and Matt, Jake Hook, Daniel Hook and Jenny, and David Hook; great grandchildren, Matt Luna and Alyssa, Heather Donegan and Jordan, Kyle McKinney and Heather, Katie Canalos and Mason, Brogan McKinney, Ashlee Hook, Kyla Hook, Madilynn Leach, Olivia Leach, Russell Hook, Jaxon Hook, Madison Renfro, Caetlin Uthe and Joel, and Gus Renfro; and great great grandchildren, Maclynn Luna, Brayden McKinney, Kash McKinney, Ellory Canalos, and Ava Laing.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Roberson Funeral Home, 1107 S. 25th St, Bethany, MO 64424. A visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Miriam Cemetery in Bethany, MO.
