Doris Loleta Hurt was born on January 5, 1960, to Willie and the late Juanita Hurt in Atlanta, Ga. She was the oldest child of three, Dwayne Hurt and (the late Damita Ann Hurt) and the first generation for the late Richard P. and Saphronia L. Gleaton.
Doris received her education from the DeKalb County School System; Countyline Elementary School, Chapel Hill Middle School and graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1978. During high school, Doris was on the track & field team, played basketball and on the Flag Corp team. She attended the University of West Georgia and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Over the years she was employed with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company starting December 1986 in the accounting department.
Doris joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church at a young age and served the Lord and the church as a member of the church's softball team, a member of the Future Leaders as Treasurer and coordinator of the group's first out of the country cruise to the Bahamas. Doris served on the first Bylaws Committee as Secretary recording the first draft of the Mt. Olive Bylaws. She was a member of the Usher Board, Singles Ministry, Women Ministry and Kitchen Ministry. Doris served as the Church Treasurer where she transformed bookkeeping from handwritten ledgers to computer-based recording and reporting.
On March 23, 2025, Doris answered God's call to rest from her labors and receive her reward.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted Dad and largest supporter, Willie Jasper Hurt. One sibling: Dwayne (Yvette) Hurt. One niece Candace (Dwight) Hurt-Taylor; One great-niece Caylee Ann Taylor and one great-nephew Dallas Taylor; Two nephews: Tre Hurt and Miguel (Anastasia) Hayes and two great-nieces: Kayin Hayes, and Zuri Hayes. Aunties: Brenda Gleaton, Linda Kelley (Anthony), Saphronia Bernice McCuller, Paulette V. (Jerome) Albright, and Ela Hurt. Uncles: Kelvin C. Hurt (Katie Sue), John T. Hurt (Linda), James H. Hurt (Merline), Richard P. Gleaton (Maria), Daniel W. Gleaton (Dora), Dezon Gleaton (Jocelyn), Ronald L. Gleaton, and Norman L. Gleaton, Lorenzo Phelps and a host of cousins, and friends.
