Doris James, also known as "Little Dee", was born on September 4, 1929, in Paterson, NJ to the late Jerry James and Mable (James) Tremble.
She was a resident of Ridgewood, NJ, living in the same home since 1938, and received her education through the Ridgewood Public School system.
After graduating from Ridgewood High School, Doris was employed by Laurie Howard, helping her raise her two daughters from babies to adulthood.
She was a member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church having served on the Buds of Promise, Christian Endeavors, and the New Choir. She was also a member of various social clubs including the Charmers and the Happy Travelers. Doris loved to entertain and dance. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch or in her backyard.
She was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Beatrice McGill, Rosetta James, and Lois Simms; and one brother; William (Butch) Tremble.
On Wednesday July 16, 2025, the master called upon his humble servant and said, "Don't be afraid, job well done." On this day, Doris departed this life.
She has left to cherish her memory, two children; Regina L. Randolph of Ridgewood NJ, and Arnold James, of Sheboygan, WI, grandchildren; Tracie M. Randolph, Sherman Dougie Randolph (Erin), Brandon James, and Dylon James (Gabrielle), great grandchildren; Jordan Crawford, Patrick Randolph, Nora Randolph, and Forrester James, special daughter; Laurie Howard, special grandchildren; Lisa Akridge, Margo Howard (Justin), Monique Howard, special great grandchildren; Justin Akridge, Jaylin Akridge and Ryan Tolliver (Krystle) devoted nieces; Pam Davis and Katherine Levy, devoted nephew; William Harris. devoted friends, Joan Frasier, Estelle Tinsley, Barbara Thomas, and Janet Stroud, and a host of other family members and friends.
Doris will be missed by many for her kind heart, open door policy, Sunday wears, and gracious steps.
