Doris Kraus, 93, of Jefferson City passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Heisinger Bluffs West.
Doris celebrated her 93rd birthday on December 5th. In 1930, she was born in Jefferson City to the late Martin and Mabelle (Woratzeck) Oidtman. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Catholic Church and attended St. Peter School receiving her diploma in 1948. Her faith and her support of the church meant everything. She was a member of St. Peter Ladies Sodality, sang in the church choir, helped weekly in counting Sunday collections, active in developing the church archives and was a member of the “prayer chain.”
On April 22, 1950, Doris married Harry Kraus. They were married in St. Peter Catholic Church by Harry’s brother, Father Robert Kraus. In her earlier years, Doris had worked for several Jefferson City businesses including Roth’s Department Store, Oberman Manufacturing and Kayser Chiropractic. She was blessed with the “gift of gab” and made friends with everyone she met. Doris loved her family and it showed in the clothes she sewed for them, the meals she prepared, especially Christmas dinner and the way she kept all in her prayers.
Survivors include her son, Phil Kraus of New Bloomfield, two grandsons, Nathan (Jennifer) Kraus of Holts Summit, Aaron Kraus of New Bloomfield, two great grandsons, Ethan and Tyler, two brothers, Glen (Deanna) Oidtman of Climax Springs, David (Gidget) Oidtman of Jefferson City, sister-in-law, Pat Oidtman of Jefferson City, nephews and nieces with a special thank you to Gayle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, son, Stephen, daughter-in-law, Ladenna, brother, Kenneth Oidtman and three sisters, JoAnn Oidtman, Mary Melley and Henrietta Hartness.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2023 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 216 Broadway, Jefferson City. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki, VG officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery.
