Doris C. Kraus, 91, of Sheboygan, passed away Saturday morning, August 21, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born June 21, 1930 in Plymouth, Doris was a daughter of the late Kermit and Madeline DeKarske Steenport. She attended Chilton area schools and graduated from Chilton High School in 1948. She continued her education at St. Agnes School of Nursing, graduating in 1951. On October 20, 1951, she was united in marriage to Roger C. Kraus at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Johnsburg, WI. They were married for 62 years before Roger preceded her in death on July 21, 2013.
Doris was an registered nurse at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan and the Visiting Nurse Association in Sheboygan. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. She also belonged to the Catholic Women's Charity Club, Sheboygan Association for Home & Community Education, Sheboygan County History Research Center, Malone Historical Museum and the Calumet County Historical Society. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, reading and traveling.
She is survived by her children, Stephen (Diane) Kraus, Waunakee, Thomas Kraus, Milwaukee, Jeanmarie (Glen) Genske, Sheboygan, and Mark (Virginia) Kraus, Wildwood, MO; her grandchildren, Fred (Sarah) Genske, Ft. Collins, CO, Eric (Lori) Kraus, Savage, MN, Michael (Amanda) Kraus, Waunakee, Zachery, Benjamin (fiancé Maddie), Anthony, Dominic and Gabriel Kraus, Wildwood, MO; her great grandchildren, Tyler, Max, Jackson and William Kraus; her sisters and brothers, Elizabeth "Betty" Zahn, Cedarburg, Jerry (Donna) Steenport, Charlesburg, James (Nancy) Steenport, Eagle River, and Steve (Joy) Steenport, Green Bay
She was preceded in death by her sister, Dyan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2133 N. 22nd Street. There will be no visitation before the Mass. Entombment will take place in Holy Cross Mausoleum in Sheboygan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, St. Dominic Church, the Sheboygan County History Research Center or the Malone Museum.
The family of Doris Kraus extends their heartfelt thanks to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and its team members for the warm compassionate care they provided us.
