Doris McCullum

McCullum, Doris, age 85, of Hawthorne, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Born and raised in Garfield, NJ she graduated from Garfield High School in 1955 and went on to put herself through Montclair College, graduating with a bachelor's in education. After teaching in a parochial school for a couple years, she went on to work in customer service for Aerospace Nylok in Hawthorne until retirement. She was an avid gardener (always giving away her zucchini and tomatoes), cook, baker and over the years involved with PTA, Girl Scouts, coaching Sports Nut softball and helping her husband at the American Legion in town where she also was an active member of the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Chorus.
Doris was a devoted parishioner, for over 60 years of St. Anthony's R. C. Church in Hawthorne, where she served as a lector up until a year ago. She was a member of the choir and participated in Lesson and Carols for many years. Doris served on the Feast Committee and was a member of the Golden Horizons. She was also a very active member and treasurer of the Rosary Makers, making and sending rosaries to our troops.
Her favorite activity was being up at the lake with her now deceased husband, Bill sitting on the screened in porch, watching the birds and playing Uno and having Kyle and Kate pop in.
Doris was the beloved wife of the late William McCullum, Sr. (2018). Loving mother of William McCullum, Jr. of Pattaya, Thailand and Marilee McCullum Klaschka of Summit, NJ, and a dear Oma to Kyle William Klaschka and Kathryn Rose Klaschka. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Tom McCullum, wife Andrea Mc Cullum and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will depart at 11:30am on Friday, September 16, 2022 from the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne, for a 12:00pm funeral mass at St. Anthony R.C. Church, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 5-8pm.
