Doris Benson Orahood was born November 28, 1928, on a farm near Chickasha, Oklahoma, to William and Maud Benson and passed away March 30, 2024, in Oklahoma City.

After graduating from Amber High School in 1946, she married the love of her life, James Orahood, on November 25, 1948, in Chickasha. Following her marriage, she attended South Oklahoma City Junior College and Oklahoma City University where she received her accounting certificate. Doris was employed with Citizens National Bank (The Gold Dome) for over 34 years, beginning her career with the bank as a teller. One of her proudest achievements was her promotion to Vice President.

After her retirement in 1987, her life revolved around community volunteering and family activities. She thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at Mercy Hospital, contributing countless hours of service; she served as President and Committee Chairman of Volunteers. The MacDowell Club of Allied Arts was another passion of hers and she served several terms as President, Vice President, and Chairman of the Board where she was instrumental in establishing the scholarship program for the Club. Other volunteer opportunities included serving as Docent at the National Cowboy Museum, and, along with her husband, Jim, as an usher at the Lyric Theater.

Doris and family enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, visiting many European countries, Japan, China, Mexico, and a host of tropical islands and countries. Flower gardening and reading were among her favorite pastimes. Her family and friends will always remember the wonderful meals she prepared and the special joy she derived from and shared by setting a table with beautiful China and crystal. Fresh flowers were always in her home.

Doris is survived by her beloved son, Donald James Orahood, of Bonsall, California, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. After enjoying 58 years of marriage, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, James.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. – Noon on Thursday, April 4, 2024, followed by the funeral service at 1p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
