Doris I. Ritland, 92, of Zearing, Iowa passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Hubbard Care Center surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, IA from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathy Sandmann officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg.
She was born in State Center, IA on October 5, 1931, to Ralph and Florence (Dahlem) Pfantz. She grew up on a farm near State Center. Doris attended and graduated from State Center High School at the age of 16 with the class of 1948. She married the love of her life Floyd Ritland on November 9, 1952, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in State Center. The couple moved to rural Garden City where they farmed and began their family together. In 1964, they moved to their Zearing farmhouse where they remained until moving to the Hubbard Care Center in 2023.
Doris was confirmed at age eleven with her faith always being a big part of her life. Doris was a lifelong active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. She also belonged to the McCallsburg American Legion #334 Ladies Auxiliary. Doris was an amazing farmwife and homemaker where she would drive tractors, haul grain, unload ear corn, mend clothes, tend the garden, raise and butcher chickens, bake the best homemade pies and cinnamon rolls, and prepare meals for her family as well as friends who stopped by for coffee to visit. Doris enjoyed music; she could play the piano and the organ. She loved attending concerts, dance recitals, speech contests, and sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Doris loved to spend time with her family especially, shopping trips with her family, canning and freezing her garden vegetables, sewing, and baking. She enjoyed playing board games and various card games, with Rummy Royal being a favorite to play with her grandchildren. Doris and Floyd traveled the world together, seeing several different countries and sights.
Those left to cherish her loving memory are her husband Floyd Ritland; daughter Nicolette Mackey and her children Ohara (Jay) Gagne' and Oshea (Joel) Escamilla,
daughter Shelley (Greg) Friest and her children Heather Friest, Staci (Nick) Kinzebach, and Clint Friest, son Perry (Judy) Ritland and his children Joseph Ritland, Jacob Ritland, Raeann (Colin) Currie, and Rebecca (JD) Hollingsworth, daughter Susan (Blair) Beck and her children Clayton (Emily) Beck, Blake Beck, and Lacey Beck; daughter-in-law Veronica (Chad) Ritland and her children Elizabeth Ritland, Grace Ritland, and Katelyn Ritland; great-grandchildren Treidan, Trinity, Chance, and Asher Gagne', Uriah, Brielle, and Eliseo Escamilla, Kasen and Riker Kinzebach, Noah and Emma Hollingsworth; sisters-in- law Marjorie Ritland, Opal Nelson, Erma Blome, and Janie Pfantz; many nieces and nephews; and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Chad Ritland, sister Dorine Thompson, and brother Ivan Pfantz.
