Doris Schwantes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ritchay Funeral Home - Wisconsin Rapids on Feb. 26, 2026.
Doris M. Schwantes, age 88, of Port Edwards, WI, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Port Edwards, WI. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00am until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Village of Port Edwards Cemetery.

Doris was born on February 27, 1937, in Marshfield, WI, to Percy and Angeline (Vogel) Bump. She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1955 and then continued her education at Wood County Teachers College, graduating in 1958. Doris married William "Bill" Schwantes at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hewitt, WI, on December 27, 1958.

Doris began her career as a teacher at Golden Glow School in Marshfield, until she dedicated herself to fully raising her four children, a role she cherished most.

Doris was a faithful member of St. Alexander Catholic Church, where she served as a CCD teacher for many years and as president of the PCCW. She was involved in her community, serving as both a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, working the voting polls in Port Edwards, volunteering at the senior center, and delivering Meals on Wheels alongside her husband.

Doris was a loyal and enthusiastic fan of the Milwaukee Brewers; she never missed a game and faithfully followed every season. She also enjoyed cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Doris had a creative side and enjoyed making crafts and homemade cards. Doris and Bill shared a love of travel, traveling to all 50 states and Europe. They also treasured traveling to attend their grandchildren's and great grandchildren's sport games, birthdays, and special celebrations.

Doris is survived by husband, Bill; her children, Scott (Betty) Schwantes, Suzanne (Gary) Yach, Sara (Scot) Field, and Steven (Amy) Schwantes; grandchildren, Adam (Maggie), Brittany, and Zach (Allison) Schwantes, Sean (Amy) Yach and Laura (Tyler) Anderson, and Nathan Schwantes; great-grandchildren, Alice, Bonnie, Oliver, Lilian, George, and Hayden; sister, Joann White; sisters-in-law, Millie Bump, Carolyn Melim, and Marilyn Schwantes; and brother-in-law, Herm Kiepert.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Matthew Yach; and siblings, Percy Jr. Bump, Audrey Schillinger, Arlene Kiepert, and Billy Bump.

The family would like to thank Dr. Natividad for the care and compassion given to Doris throughout the years. They'd also like to thank Aspirus Home Hospice, specifically Spencer and Susan, for all their care.
