Richard Hartman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ritchay Funeral Home - Wisconsin Rapids on Feb. 17, 2026.
Richard "Dick" Hartman, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI passed away comfortably surrounded by family on February 16, 2026.

Dick was born on November 24, 1949, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to Norm and Mary Jane Hartman.

He was a part of the Assumption High School graduating class of 1969 and married Joan Lueschow on Feb 24, 1973.

Together they raised three children, Rebecca, Andy and Steve. Dick enjoyed taking his boys on river camping trips, and bike trips which he continued to do with his grandchildren.

Dick took over his dad's clothing store and for many years owned and operated Brauer's Menswear in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. However, most know Dick for his long dedication to the South Wood County YMCA Camp Alexander. Dick started at Y-Camp as Nature Dick and retired as Camp Director in 2007.

Dick spent his retirement taking day trips with Joan throughout Wisconsin, bike trips, and running his dogs out at the airport. He loved making memories with his boys and their families including spending time up north, traveling to Germany, cheering on many soccer games, swim meets, hockey tournaments and telling stories around a campfire. Dick always had a way with words and we're so lucky to have had him as a part of our lives.

Dick is survived by his wife, Joan. Sons Andy (Sara) Onalaska and Steve (Brooke) Eau Claire, his grandchildren Lydia, Maya, Claire, Stella and Pearl and his loving dog Manny.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents Norm and Mary Jane and his daughter Rebecca.

The family would like to thank the ICU doctors and nurses at Marshfield Hospital for the wonderful care and kindness they showed to Dick and his family.

Mass will be held for Dick at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Visitation will be held prior to mass from 9:00AM-11:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the South Wood County YMCA- Camp Alexander to help send a kid to camp.
