Doris Jean "Jean" Shearer, 82, beloved wife of Donnie Ray Shearer for 62 years, left her earthly home on Thursday, January 1, 2026. She was born February 7, 1943, in Garrard County, Kentucky, to the late Bryant and Clara Wilcher Johnson, one of their eight children. She liked shopping at Kroger and Walmart and especially enjoyed going to yard sales. Her very favorite activity was spending time with her nieces and nephews, whom she thought of as grandchildren. Jean was a devoted “mother-figure” to her nephew Ray Cochran, as she and Donnie helped raise him in his formative teenage years. Jean leaves a lifetime of wonderful memories with her husband Donnie, nephew Ray, sisters Dolores Yates and Diane Duvall, nieces and nephews Stephanie Gilpin, Tabbitha Engell, Toni Miller, Chris Cochran, Charlie-James Dunaway, Benny Dunaway, Parker Miller, Wrenley Miller, Colton Engell, and Simon Engell. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brothers Phillip, Jimmy, Bryant, and Kenneth Johnson, and her sister Lorene Campbell. There will be a Service of Remembrance for Jean at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, following which she will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ray and Chris Cochran, Doug Shearer, Jimmy Johnson, Daniel Miller, and Justin Engell. Honorary pallbearers are Simon Gilpin and Jeff Eaton. Jean’s family will greet friends beginning at 4:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM Monday, January 5, 2026 at the funeral home. “Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories.” Arrangements are under the care of Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, and we would like to express our sincere sympathy to the Shearer Family and friends.
