Doris Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Auble-Gillman Funeral Home - Rittman on May 28, 2025.
Doris Jean Thompson, 77, of Rittman, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at Barberton Hospital, after a period of declining health.
Doris was born on December 7, 1947, in Wadsworth, Ohio, to the late Herbert and Nancy (Camp) Houts. A proud graduate of Cloverleaf High School in 1966, Doris went on to build a life rich in love, family, and service. Her career included various roles, such as server at Cracker Barrel and Ponderosa, laborer at Rubbermaid, and filing clerk at Westfield Companies, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication.
A faithful member of Rittman Grace Brethren Church, Doris was actively involved in the Women of Grace group. Prior to her time in Rittman, she was a devoted member of Norton Grace Brethren Church. Doris's strong faith and deep sense of community were central to her life, and she made a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Crystal (Noel) Peyton of Gibsonville, NC; son, Vernon "Vern" (Lindsay) Thompson of Colorado Springs, CO; her beloved grandchildren, Zeke and Abby Peyton, and Diana, Tucker, Emma, and Garrett Thompson; three sisters, Phyllis (Thomas) Dull of Seville, OH, Linda (Charles) Gilardi of Murfreesboro, TN, and Janet (Roy) Paxton of Medina, OH. Doris also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends at Towne Manor, who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Nancy Houts.
A graveside service to honor Doris's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, in the chapel at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Seville. Pastor Clark Genet will officiate.
The family requests that donations be made in Doris's memory to Rittman Grace Brethren Church, 44 S. First St., Rittman, OH 44270.
