Doris E. Whites, age 92, of Galion passed away Wednesday June 18, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her children.
Born September 3, 1932 in Murphysboro, IL she was the daughter of the late Hugh Cyrle and Bernadean Alvira (Rawlings) Powell. She married Roland Whites on January 29, 1951 and he preceded her in death on December 28, 2001.
Doris graduated in 1950 from Rolla High School in Rolla, Missouri. She retired from Walmart in Ontario and had previously worked for H & K Drug Store, The Calling Card and the Hallmark Store all in Galion. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Joseph Mother's Club and also the Buttons and Bows Mother's Club. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She took great pride in her home and caring for it as well as her appearance. Her great grandchildren gave her the name she became known as which was Grandma Snow Whites.
She is survived by her four children: Michael Whites, Linda Gruber, Douglas Whites and Stephanie Shifley, grandchildren: Melissa (Riley Lowe) Vaughan, Heather (Mike Wiles) Gruber, Chris Shifley, Scot Shifley and Shawn (Alana Toabe) Whites, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, nephew Rick Powell and his daughters Ashley, Bethany and Lara, nephews Bela and Gary Wayne and nieces, Jennifer and Becky.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson Matthew Gruber, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Jeanice Powell, brother Donald Powell and significant other Joseph Loch.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM Friday June 27, 2025 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday June 27, 2025 at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Galion with Deacon Greg Kirk officiating.
The family would like to thank Pathways Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care and attention provide to Doris.
