CUMBERLAND – Dorotha "Dottie" Lou Grebenstein, 80, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Friday, March 3, 2023, at UPMC Western Maryland after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family.
Dottie was born June 21, 1942, in Flatwoods, WV, to John and Beulah Gibson, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Gibson and Thomas Gibson.
Surviving is her husband of 42 years, Karl Grebenstein; her only son, Kevin Kiff and wife, Denise; sister, Charlotte Pascoe, of Adamstown, MD; grandchildren, Victoria Griffith, of Hagerstown, MD, Valerie Palm, of Cumberland, MD, and Derrick Kiff, of Cumberland, MD; step-granddaughters, Carissa and Brittany; five great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Nelda Gibson, of Flatwoods, WV, and Jane Gibson, of Buckhannon, WV; two nieces and one nephew; several great nieces and nephews.
Dottie was employed by Social Security for 41 years. She retired in 2002 as an assistant manager of the Cumberland office. She attended the Catholic Church for most of her life.
Dottie's greatest joy came from time with her family and grandchildren, as well as her special daily 6:45am phone call for her morning talk with her beloved sister, Charlotte.
Family will receive friends at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Shrine of SS Peter and Paul on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 10am with Fr. Mark Carter, OFM, Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Special thank you to the ICU staff at UPMC Western Maryland who provided compassion and comfort care to Dottie and family.
