Dorotha Louise "Dot" Sumner

Dorotha "Dot" Louise Sumner, age 90 passed away peacefully at PruittHealth - Lanier on November 17, 2025. She was best known as Mom, Aunt Dot, and Tootsie.

Dot is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence Levi Brown and Nettie Louise Brown, husband Donald W. Sumner, sister Bobbie Ellen Smith, and brother Lawrence (Buddy) Brown, and good friend Rebecca Dennard. She is survived her son, Alan Keith Sumner; three nieces - Renae Caviness (Mike), Laura Brito (Jose), and Cathy Dyches; five nephews – Lawrence (Larry) Brown Jr (Barbara), Mark Brown (Bambi), Scott Brown (Marsha), and Steve Brown (Carrie); and many great nieces and nephews.

Dot was full of life and was always smiling and laughing. As a teenager, she loved playing basketball and volleyball. After marrying Don, she worked as a homemaker and then 20 years as a data manager at AT&T. In her later years at PruittHealth Lanier, she was often found in the lobby or hall smiling and waving to everyone.

Dot's greatest joy was her son, Keith. In addition, she treasured time with her family and friends. She loved gospel music, hosting pool parties, singing in the choir, working at her previous church (Park Street United Methodist), watching the Braves, cooking, and caring for those around her.

A celebration of Dot's life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, GA with Pastor Kathy Layman officiating. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. before the service.
