Robert Franklin "Bob" Sumner

Robert Franklin Sumner 81, passed away peacefully at home November 14, 2025. He was born April 21, 1944 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Ray and Wilda Mae (Green) Sumner.

After serving his country in the US Navy he returned home where he met and married Linda Meeler in 1972. During their 53 year marriage they raised three wonderful children, sons Scott (Shellie), Stuart (Tara) and a daughter Amy (David). Robert is also survived by his nieces Stephanie (Ryan) Hutt and Stacie (Chris) McDonald, along with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his only sibling Mick, and his wife, Sandy; as well as his nephew Jason.

Robert was a lifelong truck driver whose values provided a strong work ethic and a positive influence to his family and friends. He enjoyed boating, water skiing and working in the yard at home. Known for his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, Robert never met a stranger. His big talker personality was matched by a gentle and kind spirit, making him a wise presence in the lives of those who knew him. His stories and laughter will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness and love will continue to live on through his family and friends.
