Dorothea Cannon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 14, 2025.
On October 9, 2025, Dorothea "Dot" Elizabeth Weaver Cannon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend peacefully joined her loved ones in heaven at the age of 94.

Born in her family home in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, Dot carried the quiet elegance and sweet southern charm of her Appalachian roots throughout her life. She moved with her family to Virginia when she was 9, where she met her beloved Douglas Cornelius Cannon III. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with adventure, raising four children and exploring the world side by side. From sailing the Chesapeake Bay to scuba diving in the Puget Sound, from Europe to all fifty of the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Dot and Doug embraced every journey with curiosity and joy.

Dot was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, known for her warmth, creativity, and grace. She held a bachelor's degree in business administration, balancing intellect with artistry in all she did. She sang with joy, played the piano with feeling, entertained as a magician, and even wrote a novel - each expression, a reflection of her thoughtful spirit.

Above all, Dot adored her family. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unwavering, expressed through so many photographs, handwritten notes, heartfelt conversations, and a presence that made each person feel deeply known and cherished. She celebrated their milestones, comforted them through challenges, and passed down a legacy of kindness, resilience, and southern grace.

Dot is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Cornelius Cannon III; her son, Thomas Allen Cannon Sr.; her parents, Thomas Asbury and Malinda Ward Weaver; and her sisters, Faye Weaver Bolick, Anna May Weaver Herrington, and Ruth Ellen Weaver.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Douglas Cornelius Cannon IV, Malinda L. Cannon Snyder, and Cornelia Elizabeth Cannon; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Her life was a testament to love, adventure, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
