Dorothea (Neville) O'Brien, age 97, formerly of Mashpee, MA, Falmouth, MA and Sayville, NY, passed away peacefully at home, in Fairfield, CT, on December 20th, 2022. She was predeceased by her loving husband, William P. O'Brien Sr, and her parents William Neville and Dorothea (Suhr) Neville.
Dorothy was born on August 30, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Queens, NY. After graduating from William C. Bryant High School, Dorothy worked for nine years as an executive secretary for Pan American Airlines in New York. Dorothy married the love of her life, Bill, in 1951. After raising four children, Dorothy attended the Katherine Gibbs School and later worked as a Librarian's assistant at Stony Brook University on Long Island.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, caretaker, and an avid gardener. She was devoted to her family and her faith. She taught CCD while she was raising her children, and in her retirement years at Christ the King, she participated in Bible study, the prayer line, the prayer shawl ministry and served as a eucharistic minister. She also volunteered in the Mashpee public schools.
Dorothy is survived by her son Bill O'Brien Jr. of Eugene, Oregon; son Paul O'Brien and his wife Tami of Haymarket, VA; daughter Marianne O'Brien and partner Fred Defeo of Honesdale, PA; her daughter Deirdre Traynor, and her husband Doug of Fairfield CT; her five grandchildren, Michael, Renata, Shannon, Sarah, Liam; and her great-granddaughter Rori, as well as nieces, nephews, and loving friends. Dorothy was also predeceased by her younger sister Patricia (Neville) Tatarian, her brother-in-law John Tatarian, and her baby brother William Neville. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
We would like to express our thanks for all the loving care, support, and friendship that Dorothy received in her later years from her caretakers and nurses on Cape Cod and in Connecticut.
A funeral mass to celebrate Dorothy's life will be said at Christ the King Church, 5 Job's Fishing Road in Mashpee at 11:00 am on Friday, December 30th, 2022. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
