Although it was 52 years ago, I can remember meeting Dorothy and Gordon for the first time as if it were yesterday when I sat down at a breakfast table across from them in a dreary dining room in a dowdy hotel in the city then called Leningrad. I was on a trip to the USSR with 50 of my fellow LCCC students, and the Billgers were among a handful of grownups, including two professors and their wives, who accompanied us. The Soviet Union had only just opened to American tourists after Nixon´s visit a year or so before, and our group was kind of a pioneer. The arrangements were a little rough going at times, but it was a visit of a lifetime. The Billgers were the center of a lot of fun on the trip and helped to keep things lively. Upon my return to the USA, I immediately switched my optometry needs to Billger Optical and remained a patient for 25 years until Gordon retired. My regular office appointments were more like social calls. I came to love them both very much.

I was so honored to have known Dorothy. I visited her a few weeks ago and she was able to remember so many wonderful memories. She will be missed.

I just loved Dorothy's smile and laugh. She was always so pleasant and jovial. She spoke of her travel exploits with just enthusiasm and delight. She was a delightful lady! She and Gordan were a joyful coulple!
